Young Athletes just miss out on promotion
West Cheshire AC young athletes have missed promotion by the narrowest of
margins.
The Chester and Ellesmere Port-based club finished their National Young
Athletes Track and Field League campaign in third position after clinching second
spot behind East Cheshire in the final round of their Division One West match
held at Carlisle.
Tom Booth spearheaded West Cheshire’s charge by claiming a hat-trick of
victories from the under 17 men’s 100m hurdles (15.7), 1500m steeplechase
(5:05.6), and 400m hurdles (60.0).
He was supported by Aidan Stoakley who won the 100m (11.6) and 400m (54.3),
Stephen Jones who won the B 100m (11.7) and B 200m (23.9), Sam Rimmer
who claimed victories in the B 400m hurdles (70.3), and B 100m hurdles (18.9),
Mike Williams (first in the shot with 11.34m), Dave Donkin (first in B 400m with
57.8), and triple jumpers Robbie Dagnall (first with 11.78m) and Connor Arden
(second B with 9.51m).
Tom Kellett (60.6) and Ryan Jones (61.9) teamed up for victories in the under 15
boys 400m, while Yousef Khalifa (9.04m) and Oliver Gibbens (8.56m) hit winning
puts in the shot alongside B 200m winner James Walker (27.4).
Max Himbury (13.2) and Matthew Pagan (14.3) joined forces to win the under 13
boys 100m races, and Max added victory in the shot (8.56m) alongside B winner
James McMahon (6.11m).
Alex Kirk won the B 75m hurdles (16.4) while Josh Bate ran 5:56.0 for third spot
in the 800m, and Matthew Simpson finished third in the long jump with 4.18m.
Sam Galley and Leah Ferrie produced doubles from the under 17 ladies 100m
and 200m. Sam won the A 100m (13.1) and B 200m (27.0), while Leah posted
26.4 for victory in the 200m, and 13.2 for first place in the B 100m, and then
added a 300m victory of 42.2.
Gemma Hale (13.1) and Danielle Erskine (13.7) teamed up for 80m hurdles
successes, and then joined up for wins in the 300m hurdles, with Danielle
clocking 50.9 and Gemma posting 52.6.
Alice Jennings claimed a hat-trick of victories in the under 15 girls 200m (27.1),
75m hurdles (12.7), and in the high jump (1-50m), joining B 200m winner Kelly
Baker (29.6) and shot winner (10.10m), B 75m hurdles winner Jenni Potter
(13.6), and B high jump winner Olivia Montez-Brown (1-35m).
Olivia Montez Brown (4.79m) and Jenni Potter (4.27m) landed victories from the
long jump, alongside other important point scorers Jenna Sheehy, Lucy Earl, and
Emma Johnson.
Amy Williams (20.5) and Gemma Chatterton (22.0) clubbed together for under 13
girls 150m victories, while Amy (4.65m) joined Charlotte Williamson (3.88m) for
long jump successes.
Ellen McMahon won the B 1200m (4:50.6), alongside Natasha Tudor (third in
4:45.1), while Chloe Hunt (third in 2:55.3) and Tess Corr (second B in 2:58.6)
completed the 800m.
Laura Jones finished second in the B 100m (11.2), and second in the shot
(6.85m) alongside Chloe Hunt who won the B event with 5.42m.
