Press Report: Joy and Rosemary in Time for Records

JOY HICKMAN and Rosemary Rogers have both enjoyed record-breaking form.

The experienced West Cheshire Athletic Club women impressed at the Ellesmere Port 5k Road Race held at Capenhurst.

Joy sliced 15 seconds off her over-60 club record set at the Christleton 5km Race earlier this year, to post a time of 21 minutes 12 seconds to finish second in her age category.

And Rosemary, who equalled her over-70 club record at Port Sunlight in June with a time of 28:02, was first over-75 lady at Capenhurst with a time of 29:05.

The duo were joined at Capenhurst by West Cheshire’s Lewis Morris who won the under 20 men’s prize with a time of 15:39 and finished 13th overall.

Lewis was backed up by Scott Wells (fourth under 20 man and 43rd overall in 16:45), and Ben Newall (sixth under 20 man and 62nd overall in 17:15).

Neil Hershaw secured third spot in his over 60 men’s age group with 18:20, ahead of George Grimsditch (ninth under 20 man and 115th overall), and Mark Davies (15th over-45 man in 19:16).

Emma Nutt was West Cheshire’s first lady and 10th in her under-35 age category with 19:51, ahead of Ian Pritchard (third over-55 in 21:08), and Clare Mallon (second over-50 lady in 23:08).

PAUL MORRISON celebrated his first sub-2 minutes 800m race at Trafford’s Longford Park Stadium.

Paul clocked 1:59.97 and was one of five West Cheshire AC members to post new personal best performances at the meeting.

Matt Gutteridge registered 2:16:65 in his 800m race, while Sam Hollins (4:03.00) and Sam Oliver (4:11:63) both smashed their previous besrt times for 1500m, and Hayley Holland rounded the 3000m in a time of 12:16:36.

Other members at Trafford included Aoife Roberts who clocked 2:31:08 for the under 15 girls 800m, while Satine Wearden hit 22.16m for the under 17 women’s discus, and Seb Whiteley achieved victory in the under 17 men’s shot with 14.09m.

FIXTURES this weekend include the Bury AC Bank Holiday Track Mile Meeting on Sunday, the Trafford AC Open Track and Field Meeting at Trafford on Bank Holiday Monday, the same day as the Cilcain Mountain Race.

ENTRIES are now being accepted for the Guilden Sutton 10k Road Race being organised by West Cheshire Athletic Club on Sunday, September 21.

The race will be fixture 7 in the 2025 Cheshire AA Road Running Grand Prix series and the entry fee is Β£15 for UKA Affiliated Runners (Β£17 for non-affiliated runners). The online entry link for is: https://wcac.niftyentries.com/

WIRRAL AC are accepting entries for their Evening Open Track and Field Meeting being held at Bebington Oval on Wednesday 17th September. The online entry link is: https://www.race-results.co.uk/

FORTHCOMING fixtures include the North West and Cheshire Road Relays being held at Birkenhead Park on Sunday 14th September, and the Northern Road Relays at Leigh Sports Village on Sunday 21st September.

ENTRIES for September’s Tuesday night Multi-terrain series have opened. 

The dates and venues are: 2nd at Royden Park; 9th at Harrison Drive; 16th at Wirral Country Park, Thurstaston: 23rd at Arrowe Park.

Everyone who enters the whole series will get a free Multi Terrain Series T Shirt. For those who don’t enter the full series there will be the opportunity to purchase at Β£15 later on.
