Press Report: Early Bird Offer for Home Race

RUNNERS are being urged to capitalise on an early bird offer for the Guilden Sutton 10k Road Race.

West Cheshire Athletic Club are organising the fixture on Sunday, September 21, which is now in it’s 42nd year and was formally known as the Sutton 6 and began as a 6-miler, becoming a 10k in 1993.

Runners are being presented with an early bird offer of a Β£3 discount for all entries before July 1.

The 10K start is about 500 metres from Guilden Sutton Village Hall (Race HQ, number/chip collection and where the finish is).

The course has two loops, the first 3.2K followed by a larger loop. The first 4.2K undulates, passing twice under and once over the A55 bypass, after which the course is fairly flat.

There is a drinks station at approximately 6.8K where the footpath is wide, the footpath then takes you to the lowest point of the course at 8K. There are then a couple of short rises to the finish at the Village Hall. 

The race will be fixture 7 in the 2025 Cheshire AA Road Running Grand Prix series and the entry fee is Β£15 for UKA Affiliated Runners (Β£17 for non-affiliated runners).

HELSBY celebrated a double success story at the annual West Cheshire AC Schools Track and Field Cup Competition held at Ellesmere Port Sports Village.

Helsby won the overall competition and the girls team secured victory in their team competition, while Neston won the boys team event.

The team results were:

OVERALL: 1 Helsby 125 points; 2 Neston 117; 3 Bishops 102; 4 EPCH 81; 5 Queens 53.

GIRLS: 1 Helsby 74; 2 Bishops 57; =3 Neston and Queens 53; 5 EPCH 41.

BOYS: 1 Neston 64; 2 Helsby 51; 3 Bishops 45; 4 EPCH 40.

Press Report: Members Pass Schools Test

SIDNEY SHORROCK, Kara Stoll and Holly Bosworth celebrated Championship best performances at Ellesmere Port Sports Village on Saturday.

The West Cheshire Athletic Club trio impressed at the annual Cheshire Schools Track and Field Championships ahead of next month’s English Schools Championships being held at Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium.

Sidney produced a stunning put of 13.30m to achieve success in the Intermediate Girls Shot Competition, while Kara powered her way to victory in the Senior Girls hammer event with a throw of 43.56m.

And Holly clocked an equal Championship best time of 24.6 seconds for top spot in the Senior Girls 200m final before winning the Senior Girls 400m final with 58.1 seconds.

West Cheshire’s Lewis Morris, Seb Whiteley, Nathan Brassington, Dun Xue, Evie Whittaker, Alba March, Emilia Pyper, and Nancy Farmer also tasted success.

Lewis rounded the Intermediate Boys 1500m in a winning time of 4:19.7, ahead of team mate, Scott Wells, who posted 4:25.6, while Seb hit 12.90m for top spot in the Intermediate Boys shot put.

Nathan delivered a double success story from his appearances in the Senior Boys shot put (12.32m) and discus (39.60m), while Dun nailed a winning throw of 41.03m in the Senior Boys hammer.

Evie cleared a new personal best height of 1-50m to secure success in the Junior Girls high jump ahead of team mate, Evie Smith, who cleared 1-35m.

Alba sprinted to success in a time of 12.6 seconds in the Intermediate Girls 100m, ahead of second placed team mate, Millie Warren, who posted 13.3 seconds.

Emilia rounded the Intermediate Girls 3,000m in a winning time of 12:21.0, and Nancy grabbed glory in her Senior Girls 1500m Final with a time of 4:58.7, ahead of third-placed team mate, Hayley Holland, who clocked 5:35.6.

Joseph Donnelly, Immy Fives, Liliana Boelger, Millie Rees, Nia Manson, Louis Grimes, Dan Walker, Amelia Snowden, Erin Barnard, Beth Manson, Eleanor Wheeler, and Mae Grant all finished in podium places.

Joseph cleared 1-55m for second spot in the Intermediate Boys high jump, while Immy posted 26.3 seconds for second place in the Intermediate Girls 200m final.

Liliana negotiated the Intermediate Girls 300m hurdles final for second position in a time of 50.2 seconds, while Millie hit 8.06m for second place in the Intermediate Girls shot put.

Nia clocked 5:04.7 for second position in the Junior Girls 1500m final, while Louis was third in the Junior Boys 300m final with 39.7 seconds.

Dan rounded the Intermediate Boys 800m final in 2:03.4 for third spot, and Amelia clocked 2:27.8 for third position in her Junior Girls 800m final.

Erin achieved third spot with 27.3 seconds in her Intermediate Girls 200m final, and Beth clocked 42.1 seconds for third spot in the Intermediate Girls 300m final.

Eleanor rounded the Intermediate Girls 800m final in 2:31.4 for third position, and Mae achieved 9.78m for third spot in the Intermediate Girls triple jump.

LEWIS PARSONS secured a silver medal at the Welsh Under 20 Track and Field Championships in Swansea where he clocked 51.37 seconds in the 400m final after qualifying from his heat with a time of 52.33 seconds.

MICKLE TRAFFORD won the team cup at Friday’s Chester Primary Schools Track and Field Competition, which attracted 19 schools to the Deeside Stadium, Connah’s Quay.

Press Report: WCAC Battle Wet and Wind at Wavertree

ARWEN THORNE pocketed two medals at the Northern Track and Field Championships.

The West Cheshire Athletic Club teenager achieved a new personal best throw in the under 17 women’s javelin of 34.89m for a silver medal, and cleared a new personal best of 1-60m in the high jump for a bronze medal.

Arwen contributed towards a club medal haul at Wavertree, Liverpool, of five silver and two bronze medals.

Dylan Gledhill launched the under 15 boys javelin to a new personal best distance of 41.66m for a silver medal.

Tristan Lee sprinted home to a time of 13.03 seconds to secure a silver medal in the under 13 boys 100m

Mia Johnson was rewarded with a silver medal after achieving a time of 25.66 seconds in the under 15 girls 200m final.

Lucas Sawyer rounded the under 13 boys 800m in a new personal best time of 2:19.06 for a silver medal.

And Seb Whiteley returned home with a bronze medal from the under 17 men’s shot put after hitting a new personal best distance of 13.07m.

Many other West Cheshire AC youngsters produced impressive performances in the miserable wet and windy weather conditions during the two-day fixture.

Louis Grimes clocked a new under 15 boys 400m personal best of 40.03 seconds for fourth spot, while Violet Thorne celebrated a new under 15 girls hammer throw of 28.54m for fourth place, and Alba March posted 26.14 seconds in her under 17 women’s 200m final for fourth position and 12.60 seconds for fifth place in her 100m final.

Satine Wearden hit 39.61m for fifth spot in the under 17 women’s hammer, while Beth Manson was seventh in her under 17 women’s 300m final with 43.33 seconds.

Kade Harris experienced his first Northern Championships and posted 13.46 seconds in the under 15 boys 100m and 27.35 in his 200m, while Nia Manson rounded the under 15 girls 1500m in 5:08.53.

Erin Barnard posted 28.25 seconds and 44.22 seconds in her under 17 women’s 200m and 300m, while Nathan Owen clocked 11.73 seconds and 23.82 seconds in his under 17 men’s 100m and 200m respectively, and Immy Fives clocked 27.91 seconds in her under 17 women’s 200m.

Dan Walker rounded the under 17 men’s 800m in 2:08.24, while Poppy McKenna posted a new under 13 girls 800m personal best of 2:34.24, and Eleanor Wheeler clocked 2:30.12 in her under 17 women’s 800m.

JOSEPH MORRISON and Jess Lark broke West Cheshire 800m club records at the British Milers Club Grand Prix Meeting at Birmingham University on Saturday.

Joseph improved his 800m personal best by nearly one second to 1:47.79 to register a new senior men’s club record, while Jess clocked a new under 20 women’s club record time of 1:47.79.

LEWIS MORRIS broke the West Cheshire AC Under 17 men’s one mile club record on Friday at the Helsby Track meet with a time of 4:41.8.

Steve Fernyhough and Jack Gannon also created club records at the Helsby Track Meet held at Ellesmere Port Sports Village.

Steve set an 800m record for his over-40 men’s age group of 2:22.2, while Jack set a one mile record for his over-35 men’s age group of 4:49.4.

MEGAN KETTLE won the senior women’s hammer with a throw of 35.87m at the Deeside AAC 50th Anniversary Track and Field Meeting held on Saturday.

Megan was joined at the fixture by Abby Gamble who long jumped 3.50m in the under 11 girls competition, and clocked 12.25 in her 75m and 2:02.58 in her 600m, alongside Heidi Anstey who posted 11.13 seconds in her 75m, and 22.30 in her 150m.

Lydia Walker posted 13.34 seconds in her under 17 women’s 100m, while Ruby Billington cleared 1-45m in her under 17 women’s high jump, and Aoife Roberts rounded the under 15 girls 800m in 2:31.06.

Danielle Erskine won the senior women’s triple jump with 10.24m, while Alan Littler clocked 55.27 and 25.43 seconds in his senior men’s 400m and 200m respectively, and Lewis Morris clocked a new under 17 men’s 1500m personal best of 4:16.20.

ROSEMARY ROGERS won her over 70 women’s age category at Sunday’s Port Sunlight 5km Road Race with a time of 28:02.

HARRIET WHEELER powered her way to a new personal best at Loughborough.

The West Cheshire Athletic Club thrower represented England at the Ron Pickering Memorial Track and Field Meeting against teams from Wales, Scotland, Ireland and Loughborough Students.

Harriet followed up her victory the week before in the under 20 women’s javelin competition at Leigh Sports Village with an impressive throw at Loughborough of 48.61m to finish runner-up behind England team mate, Ayesha Jones, who achieved 49.05m.

Lucas Sawyer and Poppy McKenna celebrated double success stories for West Cheshire AC at Blackburn in the second round of the Under 13 and Under 15 Youth Development Track and Field League on Sunday.

Lucas rounded the under 13 boys 800m in a winning time of 2:25.2 and claimed victory in the B 75m race with 11.0 seconds, while Poppy clocked a winning time of 12.2 seconds in her under 13 girls 70m hurdles and cleared 1-35m in the high jump.

Evie Whittaker (1-45m) and Evie Smith (1-40m) teamed up for maximum points from the under 15 girls high jump, while Mia Johnson grabbed glory in the under 15 girls 300m with a time of 44.0 seconds.

Violet Thorne hit a winning mark of 22.69m in the under 15 girls discus, while Dylan Gledhill spun the under 15 boys discus to victory with 19.42m.

Vera Vatan registered a winning time of 13.6 seconds in the under 13 girls B 70m hurdles, while Elliot Quaglierini launched the under 15 boys B javelin to a winning mark of 19.47m.

Lauren Higgins rounded the under 15 girls B 800m in a winning time of 2:41.8, while Morgan Edwards clocked a winning time of 2:45.7 in his under 13 boys B 800m, and Florence Hain nailed victory from the under 13 girls B javelin with a throw of 9.47m.

He was joined at the fixture by Chris Shaw who finished third in his over-50 age category with 1:28:28, and Richard Hunt who clocked 2:03.02.

Simon Crawford from Long Eaton Running Club won the race in 1:08:08.
