This race began as a 6-miler in 1982, becoming a 10k in 1993. It starts on Belle Vue Lane with a 3.3k lap, followed by a longer lap which repeats the first 2k, heading out along lanes on an accurately-measured course around Guilden Sutton to finish at the village hall.

There is no longer a junior/ family fun run, just the main race.
The Essar Chester Round the Walls multi-terrain race is one of the oldest races in the UK, being an almost permanent Boxing Day fixture since its inception in 1972. Although changing almost every year due to weather and ongoing maintenance of the roman and medieval walls, the typical route is around 6.8km/ 4.25 miles, starting and finishing on the Roodee racecourse and including sections of the walls including the iconic Eastgate clock.

Runners’ information 2018 here.
This accurately-measured 5-mile road race, first held in 1993, starts and finishes at the Cheshire County Sports Club playing fields. It follows gently undulating country lanes, and is generally downhill for the first 2 miles, before a short climb at halfway. Most of the last mile back to the finish on the playing fields is flat. Prior to slight amendments to the course in 2012, Peter Riley set the course record and fastest time in the UK for 2006, at 23:23.

We also provide marshalling assistance for the Chester Half-marathon.

Other road events
Our road runners compete all year round, in the Borders League and Cheshire Grand Prix road race series, as well as in road relays and many open races. You can find these on the Fixtures page.

Endurance League
Since 2008,  we’ve organised an annual endurance league competition for West Cheshire AC’s senior and veteran runners, based on gaining points for participation in road, cross-country, multi-terrain and fell races over the calendar year, with an emphasis on club events. See near the foot of our archive page for previous years’ standings.

Congratulations to 2017 winners Andrew and Ellie, and fellow prize-winners Andy, Peter, Angela and Clare. Women’s and men’s final endurance league tables  for 2017 are available, as are lists of races in which points were gained between January and June 2017, and since July 2017.

Women’s and men’s endurance league tables  as at the end of July 2018 are available, as is a list of races in which points were gained between January and June 2018, and up to the end of July 2018.

Age Group records
See here for a summary of age group records by WCAC members in (mostly) road events of at least one mile; see the Records page for individual records across all ages (please note: “Senior” records on the Records page denote overall age 21+ adult records including veterans, rather than just the 21-35 year Senior age band referred to in the attachments on this page). The progression of age group road records since the club was formed are available for female and male club members, based on results of these races.

Miscellaneous
Best road times for male and female club members in 2017 are available, as are best parkrun times for male and female club members in the same year. Go to the foot of our archive page for previous years’ standings.

In 2016, we introduced a one-off road running championship, based on participation in club events and popular local races, and also on finishing positions and times in those races. Men’s and women’s tables for 2016 are available, as is a breakdown of where points were scored in individual races.
