There is no longer a junior/ family fun run, just the main race
The Essar Chester Round the Walls multi-terrain race is one of the oldest races in the country, having been an almost permanent Boxing Day fixture since its inception in 1972. The 2016 route was around 6km, starting on the Roodee racecourse and following quiet canal towpaths up steps to a scenic section of the Roman and Medieval walls including the iconic Eastgate clock, before finishing back on the racecourse.

This accurately-measured 5-mile road race, first held in 1993, starts and finishes at the Cheshire County Sports Club playing fields. It follows gently undulating country lanes, and is generally downhill for the first 2 miles, before a short climb at halfway. Most of the last mile back to the finish on the playing fields is flat. Prior to slight amendments to the course in 2012, Peter Riley set the course record and fastest time in the UK for 2006, at 23:23.

This race began as a 6-miler in 1982, becoming a 10k in 1993. It starts on Belle Vue Lane with a 3.3k lap, followed by a longer lap which repeats the first 2k, heading out along lanes on an accurately-measured course around Guilden Sutton to finish at the village hall.

We also provide marshalling assistance for the Chester Half-marathon.

Events in which West Cheshire A.C. members take part

Our road runners compete all year round, in the Borders League and Cheshire Grand Prix road race series, as well as road relays and a host of open races. You can find these on the Fixtures page.

Since 2008,  we’ve organised an annual Endurance League Points Competition for West Cheshire AC’s senior and veteran runners, based on participation in road, cross-country, multi-terrain and fell races over the calendar year, with an emphasis on club events.

Women’s and men’s endurance league tables at the end of October 2017 are available, as is a list of races in which points were gained so far this year.

Men’s and women’s final endurance league tables for 2016 are available, as are the lists of races in which our runners gained points between January and June 2016, and between July and December 2016.

In 2016, we also introduced a one-off Road Running Championship, also based on taking part in club events like the Borders League and Cheshire Grand Prix, as well as  another pre-determined six popular local races. It also rewarded higher finishing positions in races and faster times. Men’s and women’s road running final championship tables for 2016 are now available – congratulations to winners Graham and Anest, and to all who took part. A breakdown of where points were scored in individual races is available here.

Age Group records

See here for a summary of age group records by WCAC members in events of at least one mile; see the Records page for individual records across all ages (please note: “Senior” records on the Records page denote overall age 21+ adult records including veterans, rather than just the 21-35 year Senior age band referred to in the attachments on this page). The progression of age group records since the club was formed are available for female and male club members, based on results of these races.
