2nd race in Cheshire County Road Race Grand Prix 2012

This five-mile road race, first held in 1993, starts and finishes at the Cheshire County Sports Club playing fields. The measured race route (UKA Measurement Certificate No. 012/17) uses gently undulating country lanes, and is generally downhill for the first two miles, before a short climb at halfway eases to a gradual rise. Most of the last mile back to the finish on the playing fields is flat.

The route has been changed slightly for 2012. The start has been relocated to give a faster getaway, and the on-field distance at the finish reduced. The race limit has been increased to 500 as a result of the course changes and increased amount of road closures being used.

The previous course produced some fast times. In 2006 Peter Riley set the course record at 23:23. A year earlier, Jenny Clague set the womens' record at 27:18. The veterans' record was set at 24:29 in 1997 by Mike Girvan. The new course is potentially even faster.
