Essar Chester Spring 5

Wednesday 3rd April 2013 at 7pm

Race information

This five-mile road race, first held in 1993, starts and finishes at the Cheshire County Sports Club playing fields. The measured race route (UKA Measurement Certificate No. 012/17) uses gently undulating country lanes, and is generally downhill for the first two miles, before a short climb at halfway eases to a gradual rise. Most of the last mile back to the finish on the playing fields is flat.

The race start was relocated in 2012 to give a faster getaway, and the on-field distance at the finish reduced, while retaining the five-mile race distance. The race limit was increased to 500 as a result of the course changes and increased amount of road closures being used.

times. In 2006 Peter Riley set the course record at 23:23. A year earlier, Jenny Clague set the womens' record at 27:18.  The veterans' record was set at 24:29 in 1997 by Mike Girvan. The new course is potentially even faster.
